It starts with the Cheese Factory, a space on the corporate intranet where any employee (or "team member," in Quicken Loans-speak) can make suggestions.

There are a string of formal programs designed to spark innovation and motivate employees to come up with the next big idea. The company's commitment to technology goes well beyond any one manager's encouragement. "You can talk to any leader and tell them you have a cool idea, and they will tell you to take the time and explore it, regardless of whether it has anything to do with the current project you're working on." "People don't just say that they encourage innovation - you have every opportunity to pursue it," he explains.
